Today's guest is Dr. Joseph Lichter, Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Florida International University and President, of Psychedelic Educators Network. Dr. Lichter is the director of the Office of Pre-Health Advising and also an associate teaching professor in the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department. He is a native Floridian who earned degrees from Florida State University (BS in Biochemistry) and Emory University (Ph.D. in Chemistry) before joining FIU.
Dr. Lichter is also a fellow of the Honors College, where he teaches regularly, including a popular course entitled "The Tao of Sports" where he uses sports as a springboard for multidisciplinary studies ranging from STEM-focused (physics, chemistry, biology, and engineering) to more social, political and even religious elements. On the weekends, he changes roles from Dr. Lichter to USAT-certified Coach Joey, coaching the FIU triathlon club.
As an ultra-triathlete himself, he is one of only a small subset of about 200 people in the world to have ever completed a deca-iron distance triathlon (24-mile swim/1,120-mile bike/262-mile run). He brings his passion for being able to achieve the impossible with him to the Office of Pre-Health Advising to help the students learn and achieve the careers that best fit them.
