Psychedelic medicine is revolutionizing the field of mental health and addiction treatment. After years of stagnant options and limited progress, the emergence of psychedelic medications and therapies offers hope for those who have not found effective treatments through traditional methods. In this thought-provoking interview, we had the privilege of speaking with Richard Skaife, co-founder and partner of the Conscious Fund, a venture capital firm focused on investing in companies that are solving the world's mental health and addiction challenges using psychedelic medicine. Richard is also the director and chair of Microdose, the largest media and events company for the psychedelic medicine sector, and an advisor to the Psychedelic Medicine Association.
Richard's journey into the world of psychedelic medicine began through his involvement in the electronic music scene. He witnessed firsthand the transformative power of psychedelics in the lives of individuals who had previously been involved in destructive behaviors, such as football hooliganism. Richard saw how these individuals found balance and enlightenment through their involvement in rave culture, leaving behind their previous lives of violence and intolerance. This experience sparked his interest in the potential of psychedelics to bring about positive change in mental health and addiction.
