A Busy Summer in Congress for Cannabis Policy Reform

A Busy Summer

A Busy Summer in Congress for Cannabis Policy Reform Michelle Rutter Friberg, NCIA’s Deputy Director of Government Relations. Now that it’s August Recess we take a moment to cover some of the developments we’ve seen in Congress since the beginning of the year.

Seems like things are starting to feel somewhat back to normal, but we had to adjust and pivot as an organization in many ways. We hosted a couple of VIRTUAL lobby day events earlier in the year, so we dive more into those events, and how they went.

We talk about the excitement in Congress for advancing cannabis policy reform, and about the research bill – the Cannabidiol and Marihuana Research Expansion Act. This one moved pretty quickly through both houses so we discuss what can we expect from this.

There was also a hearing titled “Decriminalizing Cannabis at the Federal Level: Necessary Steps to Address Past Harms” in the Senate Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Criminal Justice and Counterterrorism. It’s nice to see the Senate taking on this discussion We ask Michelle what she thought about it when she tuned in. All that and more on A Busy Summer in Congress for Cannabis Policy Reform Michelle Rutter Friberg, NCIA’s Deputy Director of Government Relations.
