Today on Hempresent Vivian McPeak is joined by Michael Brewer, of Brewer & Shipley. "Michael Brewer & Tom Shipley are truly two who work as one. Still as passionate as ever, they continue to blend guitars and voices and perform for audiences 40 years after their trademark vocal harmonies and intertwined acoustic guitars carved a unique niche in America's soundboard. Their melodic music and underlying lyrical themes of personal freedom and traditional songs of love still resonate with long time fans while continuing to draw new ones. Brewer & Shipley's Top 10 hit "One Toke Over The Line" was largely responsible for introducing them to the masses, yet their music careers neither began nor ended with this one song. "One Toke Over The Line" became a hit single record, but that was a small measure of the impact Brewer and Shipley had on people who listened to the sound they had created. Album buyers understood that these men were designers, not pop music freaks, and as prolific as they were, they didn't write songs to any formula. Each album, from Down In L.A. to Heartland, was a meticulously woven tapestry of fabric they had invented one song at a time. Brewer & Shipley have recorded albums for four different lsbels, A&M Records, Buddah/Kama Sutra Records, Capitol Records, and their own One Toke Productions. They have created timeless music that has spanned 40 years, 50 states and many countries. Brewer & Shipley... two guys, two guitars, two great voices still blending as one."
